A friend once told me don’t take life too seriously, you’ll never get out alive. And up until about a year ago, I had lived by those standards. Then I decided to get involved in the family business. I wanted to be like my cousins before me. I wanted to have the same recognition as my cousin Jonathan. I wanted to be a world champion.
Now I was constantly being talked out of it by my father and my mother. Not to mention my other cousins were trying to talk me out of it as well. They failed to realize that I’m seven feet tall and I’m built like a brick shithouse. But then again it takes a special man to become a professional wrestler.
And according to my father, that man wasn’t me.
But I rebelled as any young son would against his father. I went to the one person who would train me to become a wrestler. My cousin Jonathan, was the man who after some talking down to finally accepted the fact that I wanted to be a wrestler. Not to mention, I kind of intimidated him a bit with the whole four inch height advantage.
After what seemed to be forever, I finally stepped into the ring for my graduation match. It was against my cousin. I took him to his limit and even hit my finisher. But in the end, he beat me with his classic Repentagram maneuver. But I graduated as the first student of his school. He was proud of me, something that my father wasn’t over the years. And as a man, I would’ve loved for my father to tell me that he was proud of me.
But that didn’t happen as I left my cousin’s aid and I left Detroit to try my hand at wrestling to pay my bills. That’s when I went to AW. AW was what I thought was my meal ticket. I saw dollar signs when I signed on the dotted line to come to AW. But then the ownership changed and I just was ostracized from the company.
I didn’t sweat it though. I took some extra time off and kind of taken a good hard look at myself. I know what I have to do now. I have to get my life re-started. And that’s where TGW comes into play. I know that to make it, I have to make an impact.
And that’s what people have in store from Alex Cage in TGW.
Because, this is my life. And my life…starts now.
The plane lands in San Diego, California. This is the setting of True Glory Wrestling’s flagship show, Animosity. As the stairs are lowered a giant mass of Alex Cage as he ducks just to get out of the door. Mirrored sunglasses adorn his head as his long hair wafts in the gentle breeze coming off the ocean. With his carry on luggage over his shoulder he steps off the plane.
His open dress shirt blows a bit as he walks towards the terminal where people are looking to greet their loved ones who are getting off the plane. The sliding glass doors open on cue as Alex has to duck yet again to get into the door. The disadvantages of being seven foot tall in a short man’s society.
As he approaches baggage claim, he’s approached by a man in a chauffer’s uniform. Alex pays him no attention as he awaits his luggage.
“You Alex Cage?” The chauffer yells, just audible enough for only Alex to hear.
Alex turns his head but he doesn’t see anyone, just the tops of everyone’s head. Typical view from the eyes of a giant. The chauffer notices this and taps Alex on the arm. Then Alex realizes that someone is trying to get his attention. Alex looks down at the tiny man in the chauffer uniform.
“What do you want?” Alex bellows as the chauffer backs up a step or two.
“You Alex Cage?” The chauffer yells again.
“Yeah, what’s it to you?” Alex says as the volume drops noticeably in his voice.
“I was sent here by Wade Mason. I’m to take you to your hotel room, Mister Cage.” The chauffer says in a more formal tone.
“Oh okay, well give me a moment to get my bags and we’ll be on the road.” Alex replies with a calmer demeanor.
Alex stands and waits for about another five minutes. After what seems like an eternity, his luggage comes strolling through on the conveyor belt. He grabs the bag and nods to the limo driver. The two men trek through the terminal and eventually make it to the parking lot.
Alex hands off his bags to the chauffer who in turn places them into the trunk. Alex steps into the open limo and watches the driver takes his place in front of the wheel. Alex taps on the window for a moment and it comes down slowly.
“What’s up, sir?” The driver exclaims.
“I know you’re supposed to take me to my hotel room, but I don’t feel right mooching off Mister Mason. I haven’t even had a match yet. Take me to my Cousin David’s house. He lives in the area. Do you know who he is?” Alex asks with a bit of resentment in his voice.
“Yeah I know who David Cage is?” The driver replies trying not to sound like a smartass.
As the trek begins Alex begins to think about the last thing that David told him whenever the two last saw each other. He gave Alex the keys to his house here in San Diego, in his words, ‘just in case you need somewhere to stay.’
The limo ride comes to a conclusion as Alex unfolds out of the limo. He grabs his luggage and begins the trek up David’s driveway. He arrives at the door, pulls out his key and opens the door. He steps in and drops his luggage on the floor of the foyer.
He takes a brief walk around the house to get familiar with the place. He goes into the living room and plops down on the couch. He laughs to himself as he mumbles one final thing.
He closes his eyes and dozes off into sleep.
