Cody Only 1st RP: Meet And Greet It's been a long time since Cody Only worked in the states. Truthfully, it had been a long time since he'd even been to the states. However, his new job brought him back to America, which he was quite thankful for. Sure, Japan was fun, but he missed his parents and his old friends and, quite frankly, his Japanese wasn't exactly the best. It led to quite a bit of mis-communication, which was often a problem for him. Once he got back he went straight to Detroit to visit his loved ones, spending a week there before heading out to San Diego for his first TGW assignment: an all day meet and greet. While many wrestlers dread the meet and greet, Cody embraces it. It's a good chance to get a feel for the audience and gauge how they react to him. Plus, he was getting paid to relax outside all day and talk to legions of interesting people, so he had a hard time finding a downside in all of this. Granted, sometimes you got the fat, unwashed wrestling fanatic or the creepy goth girl who writes weird poetry about you, but it's mostly a good experience. He arrived at the TGW arena fairly early that morning, wearing a pair of loose-fitting black jeans. They were somewhat torn and had obviously seen better days. The same could not be said about his shirt, a simple black tee with a skeleton design, and on his wrist was a simple Misfits watch. The zen of his outfit was somewhat ruined when a TGW staff member handed him a laminated pass. Cody grimaced a bit as the metal clamp closed around the fabric of his shirt. He supposed it was necessary. He was new, and wouldn't be terribly surprised if most of the staff didn't even know who he was. Hours went by as he sat in the green room, each moment of near peace interrupted by another staff member coming in and talking to him about what he could and couldn't do, how long he was supposed to stay, and a million other things he really had no interest in hearing. His logic dictated that these people were going to be waiting in a long line in the heat to see him, so he's stay there as long as he had to to make sure everyone went home happy. Maybe he'd get in trouble for going over the allotted time, but it wasn't something that concerned him. Finally, the time came. He was led outside, squinting a bit and turning his head away from the sun. Sunglasses would have been a godsend right now, but it was too late for that. He adjusted to the light as best he could, the painful glare slowly fading away. It was surprising to see how long the line was, and a bit encouraging. Surely most of them were here out of curiosity, but he figured at least a few of them knew who he was from his days in Japan. The crowd began to cheer as he got closer, some of them holding up home-made signs, others action figures. He couldn't help but smile at them, waving as he and the staff made their way into the large tent set up for the event. He took a seat behind the table, stretching a bit before addressing the crowd.[/color] Cody: OK. Let's get this thing started! The staff began to usher fans in one by one. Even though he was really just supposed to greet them, sign an autograph and send them away, he took a bit of time to talk to them. What was the point of doing these things if all you were going to do was sign their stuff and send them home? Cody wanted to talk to everyone and let them know he was worth buying a ticket for. It raised his stock, and made money for TGW. A win-win situation, really. Things were progressing normally until a child, probably about twelve, approached the table. In his hands was a rolled up poster, which the small boy was clinging to for dear life. He placed it down on the table in front of Cody, who gently unrolled it, an impressed whistle escaping his mouth.Cody: Wow. This poster was the first poster they ever made of me in Japan. I didn't even have all of my tattoos back then! It's pretty hard to find. Where'd you get it?The little boy looked down at the ground. He seemed a bit nervous and didn't respond right away. Cody only continued to smile, letting the kid work up the bravery to respond. It took a little while, but the boy finally gave Cody a sheepish look.Little Boy: My big brother got it for me...Cody: Your big brother, huh?Little Boy: Uh huh.Cody nodded and reached for one of the many black markers scattered on the table, taking the cap off and placing it on the table.Cody: What's your name, champ? He offered another smile, this time getting one back from the shy boy, who seemed to be getting less nervous.Little Boy: Jason.Cody: OK, Jason. It's really good to meet you!Cody stood up and enthusiastically and reached across the table with his free hand, shaking the hand of his new little friend. He remained standing for a moment before taking his seat again, pressing the marker to the poster and writing. Jason was content to talk to him as he signed.Jason: Me and my brother watch wrestling on TV all the time. And sometimes he shows me wrestling on his computer too! Stuff from around the world! It made me want to be a wrestler, but...He sort of trailed off for moment, a forlorn look coming over his face. Cody stopped writing and returned his attention to the small boy.Cody: But what?Jason: Well, my parents tell me I shouldn't do it. They want me to go to school. And my brother says I'm too small...Cody nodded and finished signing the poster, placing the cap on the marker and standing up. He walked around to the other side of the table and knelt down in front of the kid to look him in the eye.Cody: Well, your parents are right that you should go to school. Wrestling is hard, and it'll be even harder if you don't have something to fall back on. But listen to me. Don't you ever let anyone tell you you can't do something. If you put your mind to it, there's nothing you can't do! You have to work hard, and you have to dedicate yourself to your goal, but if you fight for it, there isn't anything you can't do. I'm sure there are plenty of people who think I can't beat Alex Wilkie. When you look at it, he has the advantage. He's used to this crowd, and he's fighting to hold on to his "Yours or Mine" folder. I know how bad he wants it, and I know he'll do anything he can to beat me. But I know what I'm capable of. So no matter who says I can't do it, whether it's the crowd, the guys backstage or even Alex himself, it doesn't matter. Because I know I can. I know what I can do, and I'm not gonna' let anybody tell me I can't. Got it champ?Jason nods his head eagerly, a big smile crossing his face.Jason: Yeah! Thanks!Cody smiled and got to his feet, moving around to take a seat behind the table again. He carefully rolled up the poster and handed it to the child, who seemed focused on his goal of becoming a wrestler. Cody knew the kid would never wrestler. He'd grow up and realize how dangerous it really was and go get a regular job. Maybe become a doctor or a lawyer or an architect. Still, he knew his words would resonate with Jason for the rest of his life. Cody: No problem. Remember, always believe in yourself, even if nobody else does.Jason nodded and ran off to wherever it was he was headed. Cody looked at his watch and smiled. He still had a full day of signing and talking to do, and the line seemed just as long now as it did when he first sat down. He had a feeling he'd be welcome in TGW, at least by the fans. He was sure the rest of the roster would be a different case, but only time will tell.
